(MACON, MO) Due to a misfortunate miscommunication, one of the Macon County COVID-19 positive cases that was reported to have been removed from isolation due to testing negative, did actually continue to test positive.  Macon County still has had 8 positive cases total, now with 2 active positive cases.  This individual was hospitalized at the onset of the virus and has remained hospitalized.  Macon County Health Department will update this data on their website to reflect this change.

COVID-19 can have devastating effects on certain individuals who will require hospitalization and ventilators to live, and, hopefully recover.  It is important to practice social distancing, good hand hygiene, diligent sanitizing of surfaces, and masking when social distancing cannot be followed even when outdoors.  It is equally important to stay home when sick.  Young people with strong immune systems are getting COVID-19 in greater numbers now and can unknowingly infect family, friends, and even strangers with weak immune systems.

Slowing the spread of COVID-19

Click the title to view full document.

It’s important to realize that even though Macon County has no active cases of COVID-19 at this time, we have surrounding counties with active cases. There have been over 270 cases in our region with over 70 of those currently active.

As the Governor stated, “avoid large, congested crowds, and if you can’t social distance, take extra precautions to protect yourself and those around you.  We all know how to do this now, and it is up to us to take responsibility for our own actions.”

COVID-19 symptoms have mutated to mirror those of a common cold or flu.  Maintaining community health minimizes the spread of the virus and other diseases. This can be accomplished by following good practices such as avid handwashing, wearing a mask in public, and social distancing.
