COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER CORP (CVC)
The Macon County CVC unit is community-based and functions to locally organize and utilize volunteers.  When a public health or other emergency occurs, the need for volunteers may be tremendous and the Macon County CVC stands at the ready.  Learn more about the CVC.

Spontaneous volunteers show up at disasters, unannounced.  Affiliated volunteers, like our CVC, are more likely to be deployed in an emergency.  Our CVC’s training makes us a more valuable asset than spontaneous volunteers

Who can volunteer?

Macon CVC are people who care about the health and welfare of Macon County and its residents. Volunteers include medical and public health professionals, such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians and epidemiologists; they are also farmers, retired people, professionals and non-professionals. Other community members such as interpreters, chaplains, office workers, legal advisors, etc.….can fill vital roles.  Pre-registering and pre-credentialing of volunteers allows the CVC to match the skills of the volunteers to the needs of the region and disaster.

An application can be accessed here by clicking on the link below, by contacting the office at 660-395-4711, or by stopping in at 503 N. Missouri, Macon.

What is the registration process?

  1. Speak with the Coordinator about your interest in volunteering.
  2. Complete an application.
  3. Show your current licenses and certifications (if applicable).
  4. Sign consent for Macon County CVC to conduct a background check, to share information with federal, state, and local offices as needed, and to verify your credentials.
  5. Schedule a follow-up interview by calling the Macon County Health Department at 660-395-4711 or visiting our office at 503 N. Missouri St. in Macon, MO

Purpose of the Community Volunteer Corps

As a volunteer, you will gain personal satisfaction, a chance to make a difference in the community, an opportunity to network, and the knowledge that you are part of a community-wide emergency response effort. By creating a CVC unit that is linked to Macon County Emergency Preparedness, the members of the CVC can truly benefit the community by knowing what their role is during an emergency, how they fit into the emergency plan, and how best to respond at the time they are needed so that they are a positive support structure for the first responders. In response to disasters, the Macon community desires to be as prepared as possible to help its citizens. The Macon County CVC provides a system to develop and coordinate a response structure of medical and non-medical volunteers in our community.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Macon County Community Volunteer Corps is to improve the health and safety of the people of Macon County by organizing and training volunteers to assist in a public health crisis and provide support to response efforts in all hazards and terrorism emergencies.
