Medical Waste Disposal
Come to the Macon County Health Department to dispose of medical waste including:

Sharps/needles
How does it work?

Buy your authorized container from the Macon County Health Department (or somewhere else).

Place used or unused sharps into the container.

When full, seal your container.

Bring it to the Macon County Health Department and pay your fee for disposal (cost ranges from $5-$10 depending on the size of container).

If you choose, purchase another container.

- Large Container – $20.00

Please note: We will not accept sharps that are not stored in an authorized container. For example, we cannot accept coffee cans or water bottles. We also cannot handle loose sharps/needles that are not properly sealed.

We will not accept loose needles, unauthorized containers (for example, coffee cans, laundry detergent containers, Ziploc bags, etc.). We will accept authorized containers that are sealed.
